Ball-Drop-Tester

3D Printed PLA, Glass, Steel

A couple hundred off-spec glass tubes were stored away in CW&T’s garage from the production of Time Since Launch.

Up-cycling these defective parts presented itself as a rewarding creative challenge, so we started exploring ways involving minimal manufacturing that would turn these parts into something meaningful.

I led the timer’s design and development with generous support and vision of che-wei and taylor.

Time and Play has been two persistent themes in CW&T’s works. They became the guiding stars of this exploration.

Perplexus 3D maze and its many derivatives were amongst the earliest references that caught our eyes. The steel ball trapped inside a transparent body forms a tension that attempts the player.

The project turned out to be a testament to how reliable FDM 3D printers are today.
